Construction of the Geobotanical Garden, in Santo Domingo Yanhuitlán
The proposal to build a Geobotanical Garden in Santo Domingo Yanhuitlán is intended to show the relationship between biodiversity, geology, culture and traditions in the UNESCO Global Geopark Mixteca Alta.
This Geobotanical Garden will be located in the Geopark Interpretation Center. In this way, visitors will be able to see the relationship between vegetation and geology in the Geopark, as well as the great biodiversity of this region and the uses given to different plants, including traditional herbal medicine.
The thematic areas proposed for the Geobotanical Garden are:
The Traditional Herbal Garden.
The Encino Garden.
The Pine-Oak Garden.
The Shrub Garden.
The Stony Gardens (with species requiring little water).
The Educational Plot (a didactic space to show the agricultural uses of the landscape).
